Parents of California College Student Killed by Uber Driver Sue Uber

The parents of a California college student who was killed by an Uber driver is suing the company for her death. The accident occurred in November in San Francisco. The woman was riding a motorcycle on Broadway when an Uber driver received an alert about a new ride. The man made a U-turn from the curb, failing to see the college student on her motorcycle.

The man hit the woman, who died an hour later with broken arms and legs and massive internal bleeding. San Francisco prosecutors charged the man with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter. Earlier this month, the woman’s parents sued the driver and Uber in San Francisco Superior Court, alleging wrongful death.

An investigation showed that the man had attempted to perform an illegal U-turn when he hit the woman. According to an attorney for the family, the recent proliferation of ride-share vehicles in San Francisco and other urban areas has created a number of hazards. In addition, because drivers are distracted by their cell phones as a part of the job, this can lead to an increase in accidents.

Unfortunately, wrecks involving Ubers, Lyfts, and other rideshare companies are becoming increasingly common as the services continue to grow. Rideshare companies have been criticized for lax background checks and other minimum requirements that may not properly protect the public.

Southern California Woman Sues Uber After Explicit Pictures Posted Online

A lawsuit filed late last month against Uber claims that a passenger’s privacy was violated after she left her phone in an Uber vehicle. Specifically, the lawsuit claims that the driver found the woman’s phone, found explicit pictures, and uploaded those pictures onto the woman’s social media accounts.

The woman took the Uber in October 2017 after a night out with friends. According to the lawsuit, the Uber driver intentionally hacked into the rider’s phone, searched through her pictures, and posted them to her Instagram account. The woman sued the company, alleging that the driver knew that posting the photos would cause severe emotional harm to the woman. The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Uber said the accusations in the lawsuit are troubling, and that the driver has not driven with Uber since October 2017. The driver also no longer has access to the Uber app.

Unfortunately, ride share companies are notorious for doing minimal background checks on their drivers in an effort to save money. These background checks often do not pick up criminal actions the drivers may have taken in the past. Their past driving history may also not be discovered. Also, since Uber and Lyft do not meet with drivers in person before hiring them, troubling behaviors that could be discovered upon talking with the drivers often go unnoticed.

Uber and Lyft should bear responsibility for the actions of their drivers. If you have been harmed by the wrongful actions of a driver for Uber or Lyft, you should speak with an attorney. Apple Letter Sheds Light on Self-Driving Car Program

In recent years, Apple has been attempting to develop self-driving technology, along with other companies in the industry, including Google and Uber. However, Apple has been very secretive about its attempt to develop the technology. Surprisingly, Apple recently wrote a letter voluntarily to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that showed how the company is testing the technology and the safety precautions it has been taking.

In its letter, Apple emphasized the fact that it will not fast track the technology in an attempt to beat the rivals. It also says that it places a human driver behind the wheel of any vehicles it tests in traffic. It also gives the operator enough notice to be able to override any decisions made by the computer. Apple also mentioned that it very carefully selects the drivers who will test the technology. Only drivers who haven’t caused a serious accident, received a DUI or had their license revoked or suspended in the prior 10 years are eligible. Those drivers must also pass a drug test and a background check and complete a thorough training program.

Although the letter doesn’t announce anything shocking, it does confirm Apple’s intention to compete against other companies who are working on the technology. It appears that the company is making safety a priority, likely in an attempt to avoid any accidents like the 2018 Uber accident that killed a 49-year-old woman.

Self-driving automobiles are likely to soon become a reality. Along with this technology is likely to be an increase in automobile accidents. I was harmed by a drug made at a compounding pharmacy. What are my legal options?

I’m sorry to hear that you were harmed by a drug made by a compounding pharmacy. Compounding pharmacies make customized pharmaceutical products designed to meet the individual needs of a patient. They are very widely used, however, the products they make are not regulated by the FDA in the same way that other drugs are.

Compounding pharmacies combine, mix, or alter the ingredients of a drug to make something that will meet the needs of a specific patient. Compound pharmaceuticals may be needed when other available drugs don’t meet the needs of a patient. There are approximately 7,500 pharmacies that specialize in compounding in the U.S. Compounding can also be done in hospital pharmacies and other locations.

Compounding drugs are not FDA-approved. In general, the states have the responsibility to oversee compounding pharmacies to ensure they are in compliance with federal rules. This means that if a state lacks the resources to oversee the drugs that are coming out of compounding pharmacies, problems can result. In Texas recently, 68 patients suffered vision loss from eyedrops made by a compounding pharmacy before the problem was discovered. This occurred allegedly because of a lack of oversight by the state and the lack of a good mechanism to identify the problem.

If you believe that you have been harmed by a drug that came out of a compounding pharmacy, you should speak with an attorney. The pharmacy has the legal obligation to make products which are safe for consumption. If you are in Los Angeles, call me, Conal Doyle, Los Angeles personal injury attorney, at 310-385-0567. Uber Driver Sentenced to Life in Prison for Shooting Rampage

A former Uber driver was recently sentenced to life in prison after he went on a shooting rampage in a string of parking lots. The shootings occurred in Michigan in 2016.

The Uber driver, who is 48-years-old, was ordered by a Michigan judge to spend the rest of his life behind bars without the possibility of parole. The man opened fire at random in parking lots outside an apartment building, a car dealership, and a Cracker Barrell. He killed six people and wounded two others. He was taken into custody and charged with 16 counts, including six counts of murder and two of attempted murder.

After the shooting, many Uber customers became concerned that a mass murderer was driving for the company, and there was a renewed interest in how Uber vets their drivers. Uber said that the man had passed its background checks. The man was found to be mentally competent to stand trial by a judge. After the shooting, the driver filed a $10 million lawsuit against Uber, claiming that the Uber app had taken over his body and forced him to kill.

This alarming case is an illustration of the fact that dangerous individuals could potentially be driving for Uber or Lyft. There have been questions for years about how good the background checks are at weeding out potential criminals. In addition, in many cases the riders with Uber or Lyft may be under the influence of alcohol, which can reduce their defenses.

If you have been harmed by a driver for Uber or Lyft, you should speak with an attorney. You may have legal rights against the company. Call me, Conal Doyle, Los Angeles personal injury attorney at 310-385-0567. I can help. Call today to learn more or to schedule a free consultation.

I got an infection from an endoscope in Los Angeles. Can I sue my doctor?

Unfortunately, infections from instruments used during a surgery or other procedure are not uncommon. Hospitals constantly sterilize their equipment, and as a result bacteria have been created that are immune to normal methods of sterilization. In addition, some instruments may not be properly cleaned between uses, which can also cause an infection.

The FDA has started to evaluate how endoscopes are sterilized between uses and whether hospitals take enough measures to prevent the spread of disease. Patients have the right to expect that a medical procedure will not make them sick or cause them additional complications, which can occur with an endoscope infection.

Endoscopes can be very useful tools in seeing patients’ internal organs without the need for an incision or surgery. Endoscopes are very thin tubes that have a light and a camera. They are also reusable, which makes them less expensive. Endoscopes can diagnose a number of conditions. Once an endoscope is used, it must be sanitized so that any microorganisms are killed before it is used again. However, endoscopes have very small parts and can be difficult to clean. Also, some bacteria can survive the sterilization procedures being used.

If you have developed an infection after an endoscope was used on you, you should speak with an attorney. If you’re in the Los Angeles area, call me, Conal Doyle, Los Angeles personal injury attorney, at 310-385-0567. I can help. Call today to learn more or to schedule a free consultation.

Lyft Rider Arrested Near California in Killing of Lyft Driver

A Lyft rider stabbed his pregnant driver, which killed the woman and her unborn child. He then stole her car and drove almost 150 miles before being arrested near the California border in Arizona.

The female driver was 39 and was at the end of her pregnancy. She had two other young children. The man was being held at a local jail on suspicion of two counts of first-degree murder and one count each of kidnapping and armed robbery.

According to reports, the woman was working very early on a Sunday morning as a Lyft driver when she received a pickup request. She picked the man up and drove to an apartment complex, where he attacked her and fled in her SUV. Police officers responded to the apartment complex after receiving reports of a woman screaming in the parking lot. They found the woman suffering from multiple stab wounds and she was transported to the hospital, where she and the baby died.

GPS tracking was used to locate the stolen SUV on the interstate about 25 miles from the Arizona-California line. Police do not believe the driver and the passenger knew each other, and a motive for the killing remains unidentified. Lyft says that it is cooperating with the investigating and that the passenger’s account has been permanently deactivated.

Although Uber and Lyft are very convenient and can be a good way to get around, they can also be very dangerous, both for passengers and drivers. Uber and Lyft are notorious for doing insufficient background checks on their drivers. There is also no checking done on the passengers. This has resulted in countless assaults and even a few murders between drivers and riders.

If you have been involved in an incident involving an Uber or a Lyft vehicle, you should speak with an attorney. You may be able to obtain compensation. What are my legal options if I have been injured in a small plane crash in Los Angeles?

I’m so sorry to hear about the plane crash you experienced. Fortunately, most commercial air travel is extremely safe in the U.S. However, smaller private planes do crash under some circumstances. In most cases, the passengers and pilot suffer extreme injuries or are killed. If you have been injured in a small plane accident or if a loved one has been killed, you should consult with an attorney.

However, small plane crash cases can be extremely difficult. There is a great deal of federal legislation surrounding plane crashed that can make it tough to obtain compensation after an accident. One federal law protects aircraft manufacturers from product liability claims related to planes more than 18 years old. Most small planes that are currently in service in the U.S. are more than 18 years old.

Also, insurance coverage for victims of small plane crashes can be non-existent. It is common for a pilot to have more car insurance than insurance for the airplane that crashes. In some cases, pilots or aircraft mechanics may have no insurance. In that situation, it can be difficult to obtain compensation for your injuries.

Despite the difficulties, you should still speak with an attorney if you have been injured in a small plane crash in the Los Angeles area. You may have legal options you had not considered. I had a knee replacement called a Zimmer Persona and it has to be replaced. Can I file a lawsuit in Los Angeles for my damages?

Knee injuries can be very debilitating. Patients suffering from a knee injury often decide to get the knee replaced in the hopes to get rid of the pain and in order to lead active lives. The Zimmer Persona knee replacement is a system that was marketed to patients who want a solution to knee injuries that is fairly versatile.

Unfortunately, the Zimmer Persona knee replacement was later found to have some serious design flaws after it was implanted in countless patients. Although it was promised that the knee replacement would address the needs of patients with a variety of conditions and injuries, instead the knees were found to have a number of flaws.

In many cases, the knees contained defective screws, which caused the knees to loosen or fail. This required surgery to correct. Fluids could build up between the bone of the joint and the knee’s components. Some of the implants contained debris, which could become lodged in the joint and cause damage to patients.

Many lawsuits have been filed against the company that manufactured Zimmer Persona knees. A number of those patients were forced to have additional surgeries in order to correct the defective knee. Patients have also had a big loss of mobility and a lot of pain.

If you have received a Zimmer Persona knee replacement, and that knee failed or caused you additional pain or injuries or the loss of mobility, you should speak with an attorney. You may be able to obtain compensation from the company for your injuries.
